We are pleased to announce that the British Comparative Literature Association will be hosting a Postgraduate Reception on the evening of Tuesday 28 October 2014 at University College London.
The theme for this year’s Autumn Reception is ‘Beyond Europe’ and we have three slots available for postgraduates to give a 20-minute paper on any aspect of their research in Comparative Literature that shifts across or reaches beyond the boundaries of European cultures, languages, or societies.
Our keynote speaker for the evening is Dr Florian Mussgnug (Lecturer in Italian and head of the Comparative Literature Graduate Programme at UCL), who will be speaking on ‘Re-thinking Genre in an Age of World Literature’.
BCLA Postgraduate Receptions are friendly evening seminars which offer postgraduates working in Comparative Literature and related fields the opportunity to present their work to peers and academics, followed by an informal wine reception. Our last Postgraduate Receptions included papers on Bronisław Malinowski and Ovid’s Metamorphoses, Vriginia Woolf and Arundhati Roy, Naipaul’s cross-cultural writing and Claude Lévi-Strauss’ ethnographic imaginary.
The deadline for abstracts (up to 250 words) is 6 October 2014 (though we may be able to be flexible if you indicate your interest but are not able to write an abstract before then). If you would like to present, or for more information, please contact BCLA Postgraduate Representatives.
