‘Translating Sounds in Proust’ in Paris

Université de Paris Ouest Nanterre La Défense (France) will be hosting an international conference entitled ‘Translating Sounds in Proust’ on 25-26 June 2014. The conference is organised by the Confluences research group, CREA (Centre de recherches en études anglophones) as part of the Sounds Foreign seminar, with the support of the School of Foreign Languages and Cultures and the Doctoral College of Languages, Literature and Performing Arts at the Université de Paris Ouest Nanterre La Défense.

Bringing together critics and translators, the conference draws on the English-language translations of Marcel Proust’s work in order to explore the way sound plays out in his work, disrupting the lines that separate the ‘original’ or source text from its echo in translation.

There is no fee for attending the conference, however participants are asked to register beforehand by sending an e-mail to Emily Eells and Naomi Toth.

Papers of the Conference will be published in an edited volume in French. Organisers are also looking for submissions of additional articles for inclusion in the volume.  Abstracts should be sent to Emily Eells.
