The British Comparative Literature Association organises the John Dryden Translation Competition and offers the Arthur Terry Postgraduate Essay Prize on an annual basis. The Glyn Hambrook Postgraduate Research Award, which is designed to support activities such as attendance at conferences, research trips by BCLA members registered for a postgraduate degree, has been running annually since 2020.
In addition, the inaugural BCLA First Book Prize, which recognises an outstanding first monograph in the field of Comparative Literature, was launched in January 2025. The winner will be announced at the conference ‘Literature and Decoloniality‘ at St John’s College, Oxford University in September of this year, commemorating the BCLA’s fiftieth anniversary.
The BCLA’s First Book Prize is awarded to an academic monograph in the field of comparative literature, as the author’s first book-length scholarly publication.
The BCLA’s postgraduate bursary, worth up to £250.00, is awarded on an annual basis to postgraduate students for costs incurred for the purpose of research activities.
