The BCLA Glyn Hambrook Postgraduate Research Award

The Glyn Hambrook Postgraduate Research Award was established by the BCLA in 2020 to offer support to postgraduates affected by the COVID pandemic, and is now the annual bursary awarded to one or more postgraduate members of the BCLA, with a value of up to £250.00. This sum may be used by for any costs incurred for the purpose of research activities. These may include travel expenses, registration fees for conferences or seminars, enrolment for other relevant training courses, the purchase and download of applicable software, or the costs of books, journals, and stationery. The purchase of equipment such as laptops, mobiles or other hardware is not eligible.

Applicants should be members of the BCLA, and should also be students registered for a postgraduate degree (e.g. MA, MSt, MRes, MPhil PhD) in the field of comparative literature, defined here as the interaction of at least two bodies of literature (writers, genres, etc) that are not confined to one national literature. To reduce the burden both on applicants and on assessors, the Award will be allocated at random to one applicant who meets these eligibility criteria

Applications for membership may be made here. The application form will be available at  this link when the next round of applications is announced.

This award is owing to the generosity of Glyn Hambrook, a member of the BCLA Executive Committee for many years and a co-editor of the Association’s journal Comparative Critical Studies. Formerly Reader in Comparative and European Literature at the University of Wolverhampton, and now an Honorary Research Fellow, he is also Profesor Honorífico at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Spain.
